The purpose of this note is to provide information to those who want to make there Biking for Breakfast adventure extreme...you know who you are....so here is the situation:

To accommodate a wedding, this year a group of riders will be leaving Souris on Friday, July 31, to ride to Tignish.  Some of those riders will be joining the Biking for Breakfast August 1 event and returning to East Point on Saturday.  That's about 550km over two days.....so here is how it will take place...
  • overnight bag (sleeping bag, clean duds, toothbrush...you get the idea) will be delivered to a location in Summerside or Charlottetown on July 30, Thursday evening, for transport ME Callaghan on Friday
  • riders then make their way to East Point and park their vehicle
  • Overnight at East Point TBA...tents, campers, cottage rental...there are many options...we'll work that out depending on numbers..
  • Riders leave East Point at 6AM and participate in an unsupported ride to ME Callaghan
  • Expect to be able to handle your nutrition, hydration and bicycle repair requirements
  • There will be cell phone numbers exchanged....we may even have a support vehicle
  • Rest stops will be determined by the group
  • On arrival at ME Callaghan, you'll be able to shower and have a pasta meal, rehydrate and get some rest
  • You'll also be treated to some entertainment as part of the overnight festivities
  • On Saturday morning, you'll head to North Cape by bike (25km) or by bus
  • Then you will join the Aug 1 BFBC event
  • When you finish the ride...your vehicle will be there....not sure you'll be in any shape to drive it, but that's another story...
It is extreme for the Recreational Cyclist...but imagine the boost to your personal fitness as you spend the next month preparing.

If you are interested in participating in this 2-day excursion...please send an e-mail to Ben Kennedy at:

Biking for Breakfast 2X...too extreme for you? PDF Print E-mail

On August 1, 2009, Biking for Breakfast will enter its 5th year as a tip-to-tip 278km fundraiser cycling event on PEI.  The event is held on the first Saturday in August each year.

To accommodate a wedding on that day in 2009, a small group of cyclists plan to do the ride on Friday and in opposite direction.  From that, the notion of Biking for Bearkfast 2X was spawned.

On Friday, July 31, 2009, you will park your car in Souris, PEI and travel about 250km across the province.  This is an unsupported ride and you will be expected to be able to handle your nutrition, hydration and other bicycle repair needs.  The destination is a M.E. Callaghan School where the Biking for Breakfast pre-event social is being held and where you will be treated to a spaghetti dinner and a place to sleep (you'll need sleeping bags...more info to follow on this).  On Saturday, you will join the Biking for Breakfast group at 7am for the 278km ride from North Cape to East Point.

Biking for Breakfast 2X is part of the Biking for Breakfast fundraiser and should you choose to participate, you will be expected to meet the fundraising requirements established for the Biking for Breakfast event.
