Having Problems with Registration?
If you are experiencing problems with registration, we want to know. First visit our Registration Problems FAQ as that may help guide you to a solution.
So, How Long Does it Take to Bike Across PEI in one Day?
This is likely the second question people will ask you when you tell them you are going to bicycle across Prince Edward Island in one day. The first question is, of course, "You're going to do WHAT?"
There are a number of factors that affect the finishing time of riders. The major environmental factor is the wind. A strong headwind versus a strong tailwind (I say "strong" because usually there is no mild wind on P.E.I.) can translate into anywhere between one to two hours difference in finishing time. of course, the second and more important factor is your individual fitness and training for this event.
Please visit this link to explore the times of the riders:

Steps for Returning Riders
We have simplified the registration process for returning riders. Here are the steps:
1) Log in to your account through the Home Page (do not click the "Registration" button on the menu). If you forgot your password, please visit this link. If you do not know your username, please send Ken an email.
2) Once you successfully login, you will be taken to your individual Profile Page. You should see a page that will resemble the page on the left. If you have not yet uploaded a picture of yourself, you'll see a "No Image" Photo instead.
Please note that in order to register for the event, you need to scroll over the EDIT and then click "Update Your Profile".
WARNING: If you did click the Register link in the navigation menu and attempted to logon, it will read "you are not authorized to view this resource." You will not be able to register this way. Simply go to the Home Page and then Login.
You can also see that while you are on this page, you have the ability to "Update Your Image" as well.
But, let's go the "Update Your Profile" Page.
3) Update Your Profile. You will see three tabs. The page will open on the "Contact Info" Tab. Please ensure all the information is correct on this page. Once you have reviewed and / or corrected the information, you can click on the "Registration" Tab. You will need to complete all of the required fields in order to register for the event. When you click "Update" you will be officially registered in Biking for Breakfast. You'll notice that only some of the fields will be visible to people visiting the site and that your personal information will be protected from everyone but yourself.
Could it be any easier.
Steps for First-Time Riders
If you are a first-time rider, here are the registration steps:
1) Go to the Registration Page and complete the information on this page.
2) After you have completed the required information on this page, you then click "Send Registration". You are almost complete. You will be taken to a page that will tell you that you need to confirm your Registration by replying to an email that has been automatically sent to the email address you supplied. If you don't have access to this email address, please send Ken an email.
3) Once you receive the email and you click on the confirmation link, you will be offically registered for the Biking for Breakfast Challenge. You will recieve detailed information on the course and on the options you have selected.
Please Update Your Profile as Need Be
It is important the Planning Committee has the most up-to-date information on your Registration details and on your requests (ie, transportation especially).
So, how you do this is simple. Follow the steps outlined for "Returning Riders" above and only change the details that you wish to be changed (everything else will stay in our database).
NOTE: If you change your transportation requests, please email Ken to inform him of the change. Thanks
Is There a Registration Fee?
Yes. The Early Registration Fee is $25.00. In order to be eligible for Early Registration, you must register by June 15th. Please note you do not need to send the registration fee by June 15th -- you simply need to register. After June 15th, the Registration Fee is $40.00. If you are a Senior (60 +) or a student (between 12 and 18 years of age), your registration fee, whether early or regular, is $10.00. Students under 12 years of age are free to participate.
The Registration Fee is not tax deductable. You can pay this fee one of three ways:
a) send it via mail to Ken Trenholm, 2 Darby Drive, Summerside, PEI C1N 4V5
b) pay the fee the day of the event at the registration table with your pledges
So, I want to do as much as I can online
You can follow the
detailed steps outlined on this page to do as much as you can in order to save yourself time at the registration table.
What is the Suggested Pledge Amount?
$50.00. The suggested Pledge amount has remained at the same level since we started the event.
Who Should I Make the Cheques Out To?
Please make all cheques for donations to the event payable to "
Breakfast for Learning (PEI)". However, the cheques for registration, accommodation, transportation, or clothing are made out to "
Biking for Breakfast".
How Do I register for partial courses the day of the event?
You will need to arrive at the Refueling Station. Do not give your Pledge Form and money to the Refueling Station volunteers; please wait until a Support Vehicle arrives. Give the Support Vehicle your Registration Envelope.
What is a Custom Course?
A Custom Course is any course that you define. The typical custom course, in the past, has been riders who start at their home and catch up to the group of riders onroute to the next refueling station. At the Refueling Station, they present their pledge sheets and donations. Another type of a custom course has been to start at one Refueling Station and to end at the next Refueling Refueling Station.
So What Do I Do with the Money?
Please place your pledge sheet and your pledge money in one sealed envelope. Mark your name and the pledge amount total on the outside of the envelope. By doing this, you will speed up your time at the Registration Table and ensure the event starts at 7 a.m. sharp. (We have a lot of riding to do.) One rider in 2009 was even more creative and printed off the pledge sheet directly onto a 8 x 10 envelope and thus had all his info on the envelope when he presented this to us. Thanks.
Pace Groups
Riders have the option of joining a pace group during the event. Pace groups are excellent for riders who are entering the event and not knowing what other riders' capacities are so you can join a pace group with the same goal of speed as yourself right from the start instead of figuring it out half way through the event. You pick which pace group you want to be joined with at the time of registration. This certainly does not mean you need to always be with that group as you could be having a really great day (so you are much faster than you thought you'd be) or a very hard day (so you are slower than you thought).
A cautionary tale about pace groups. Some riders expect that these pace groups translate into the entire group staying together for the entire day. Although this may happen in some sports, pace groups in a major bicycling endurance event as this is different. The pace group you start in will not likely be the pace group you end in UNLESS you have talked to some people and agreed to ride the day together. From flat tires to bonking to your group leaving while you were in the washroom to riders different strength and training levels are all some of the reasons pace groups split after the start.
That being said, for riders who wish to know the other riders whose goal is to finish the event with an average pace the same as their's, pace grouping is a wonderful way to do so.
For riders who register early, their background color of their bib will reflect the pace group that they selected (the added benefit of early registration):
Pace Teams
Different from the Pace Groups, Pace Teams are a team who either enter the event committed to riding together and supporting each other: the 'no one gets dropped' philosophy and sticking to it. For riders wishing to be a Pace Team Captain and looking to recruit team members, please send an email to Ken and he will post onlline. Or, if you are a rider looking to join a Pace Team, send Ken an email and he will post online.
You may be asking yourself what is
the difference between a pace group and a pace team. Great question. A pace group is a general classification about the average speed for the day you are going to ride with no committment for everyone in the same pace group to ride together and support each other. It provides a glance at those around you and if you are riding with the group of cyclists who match your interests / abilities for the day. The Pace Team however is a commitment that riders on the Pace Team will ride together and support one another for the full event (no matter how many flat tires or long climbs).
So, What if my Wife and I Want to Register and we only have One Email Address?
Thanks to a 2008 husband and wife team for asking this question. The registration system will not accept registrations with the same email. This is a built-in feature to safeguard your registration. It also makes it easier for people who have already registered so they can quickly access their registration information and do not need to re-enter their information.
As for what to do when you only have one email address and two or more riders who wish to register for the event, there are two options. The first option I recommend is to grab a free email account on www.hotmail.com for those who do not have an email account. The second option is to input your registration information using a "ghost email" in the registration form (you could use
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
). As the email will not be functional, you will not be able to confirm your registration (obviously). On my end, I can confirm the registration. You merely need to send me an email and tell me you used the one email address option as explained in the FAQ. Either way works. You can change your email address at any time. Obviously, communication about the event will occur via email and if someone does not have an accessible email account, then that person may not be "in the loop" about the event.
Riders 12 & Under -- Riders of Tomorrow
We are pleased to have riders 12 years of age and under participate in the tip to tip event. In order for a child 12 years of age and under to participate, an adult must be riding with them, and they must have their own support vehicle. There is no registration fee and no suggested pledge amount for the child.
How does this work? It is very simple. The adult and child bicycle together. At the point the child has completed what they wish to complete (2, 5, or 10 km -- whatever the distance), the child's bicycle and child are then taken off the course by the family and the child can rest in their own support vehicle. The adult can continue to participate in the event.
Please make sure you indicate the "Riders of Tomorrow" category under the Type of Registration so we are not expecting a Registration Fee from you.
Do we need to be an official team to register as a team?
You can either be an official team or a group of people joining as a team. The benefit of the team application as it signals you are a part of a larger group of people and that someone has taken on some type of leadership role to bring "the team" over. The other benefit is that teams may be flexible and choose to participate in the entire Tip to Tip or pick portions of the course....it is all up to the team.
Any differences if registering as a team or individual in the cost?
No. The individual registration is still $25 per person; thus, equaling the
field for teams that have many and others that only have a few riders.
The pledge amount suggested is $50 per person. Certainly the majority of people raise more money and we have had two times where a person has not been able to raise the $50. This is a suggestion only. So, registering as a team maintains the same registration costs / suggestions per rider: $25 registration before June 15 and a $50 minimum pledge suggestion.
